BCIN Qualification Review
When applying for building permits most drawings require an individual qualified in accordance with the Ontario Building Code. We are qualified in all aspects of the Building Code and can review your drawings and work with you to ensure compliance with the code. Once complete we can approve your drawings and add our BCIN approval information to your drawings.
Project Code Review
Compliance with the Ontario Building Code can be a complex undertaking. However, there are many different ways that a particular design can meet the requirements of the code. At RSM, we complete a full review of your project and present all possible compliance options to provide a better understanding of code requirements. Many times a unique design can be code compliant if you know the right path to take through the code. In addition, we can shorten your building permit approval times by correcting all code issues before submission to municipalities.
Alternative Solutions
Ontario’s current building code has a system to allow innovative designs and products that do not necessarily meet the prescriptive requirements in the code. These “alternative solutions” are a way of meeting the same level of performance prescribed in the code. Quite often municipalities will accept these proposals provided they are laid out according to the format required by the code. Our vast knowledge of the code and it’s objective based format ensures we can articulate these proposals to the municipalities allowing these “outside the box” designs or products to be approved.
Interpretation Disputes
Many times you will have disputes with a municipality on technical/ legal interpretations of the Ontario Building Code or you might be issued orders to comply with certain aspects of the code you disagree with. With our experience in code interpretation and legal disputes, we can review the issues, help you discuss concerns with the municipality and may find code provisions that agree with your view. |
